How We Make Our Jewelry - 3 Basic Ways

1. Direct Fabrication By Hand

Cut/Pierce Bend/Form Grind/Sand Solder/Weld Polish the Metal resulting in a unique jewelry piece or one of our production pieces

Some examples:

These "Wave" Bracelets, in various colors of gold, are examples of simple hammering, bending and shaping.

2. Carve a wax

2a. By Hand

These Wax Models were carved by hand (they are about 1" tall) and before they are cast in silver to be used as "Master Models", we use double sided tape to stick them to blocks of steel. They are then placed in our 2 1/2D scanner which "digitizes" them. This allows us to use the digital file to change their size and orientation (we can make them smaller and make lefts and rights for earrings.

2b. By Machine

This is the Schooner HERITAGE. She is one of the schooners of the Mid Coast of Maine that we make in jewelry form. The pendant size was carved in wax by hand, cast in silver, a mold was made, waxes made from the mold, then the wax was cast in 14K yellow gold.

The smaller versions (earrings) we're made by using the digital files as noted above. The waxes were then cut on a CNC mill using said files. The process now becomes casting in silver, making a mold, waxes made from the mold and the wax was cast in 14K yellow gold.

3. Die Striking

Steel is cut and shaped to form "punches" and "dies" which are used to emboss/form/coin the precious metal and then to blank/trim or otherwise cut the final shape.
